SELECTED PROJECT EXPERIENCE
- Managed hundreds of UST investigations including collection of soil samples around USTs for chemical analysis, installation of permanent external vapor monitor points around USTs, installation of soil borings and monitor wells to delineate petroleum contamination, and performance of soil gas studies (including both on-site and laboratory analysis) to identify and delineate contaminant boundaries. Investigations were performed in accordance with RCRA UST regulations (40 CFR 280). Also, have conducted numerous UST closures, site assessments and remediations in Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Closures included excavation, classification and disposal/treatment of contaminated soils as well as design implementation of in-situ remedial systems.
- Directed and managed the location and removal of four USTs at an abandoned dry cleaning store in Baltimore, MD. Two of the tanks contained water and PCE. The immediate tank area and surrounding soils had a strong odor of PCE. Worked in conjunction with Maryland Dept. of the Environment Oil Control division and the Hazardous Waste division to rectify the situation. Water samples were collected and analyzed via flashpoint method, which exceeded the 150-degree threshold. Soil samples were gathered from the tops of the tanks and analyzed for EPA Method 8260 VOC to determine if the soil was hazardous. Field screening of the soil also confirmed that extensive soil contamination was present. Groundwater samples were then taken to ensure contamination did not enter the groundwater. All contaminated soils were excavated and removed to an approved facility.
- Oversaw the Upgrading of fuel dispensers at the Hertz car rental facility located at Dulles Airport. Four Bennett dispensers were removed and four Gas-Boy dispensers were installed. All electric and plumbing associated with the Gas-Boy dispensers were hooked up and the old dispensers were disposed of.
- Directed and managed the Upgrades of USTs at the National Institutes of Health building numbers 5, 29B, 45, 10A and 6B. Upgrades entailed labeling the fills and monitoring wells, installing overfill protection, testing tanks, installing line leak detectors, repairing monitoring wells, installing over-spill protection, installing new supply and return piping, installing a new sump, performing confined space entry, and training of personnel. Building 10A required the removal of contaminated soil and backfilling.
- Directed and managed the installation of (2) 25,000-gallon USTs at Exodus Communications in Ashburn, VA. Installation included the excavation of (1) tank field and the installation of 36’ x 36’ x 20’ slide rail system shoring. Submersible pumps with line leak detectors, overfill protection valves, total containment piping and monitoring wells were all installed.
- Directed and managed the installation of (1) 4,000-gallon heating oil UST and all associated piping at Morgan State University Fine Arts Building.
- Co-directed and co-managed the removal of (4) 2,000-gallon and (1) 500-gallon USTs and closed-in-place (2) 500-gallon USTs at the Maryland Port Authority-Dundalk Marine Terminal. The project consisted of removing and disposing of 4,500-gallons of product in the USTs, removing and disposing of 5,000-gallons of petroleum and chromium contaminated groundwater, removing and disposing of 5,000-gallons of petroleum contaminated groundwater, and stockpiling and loading 50 tons of contaminated soil.
- Co-directed and co-managed the installation of a complete fueling station located at the Delaware Transit Corp. facility in Dover, DE. The project entailed designing and installing two dispenser islands with three dispensers total. Two of the dispensers were Gas-Boy twin diesel fuel dispensers and the third was a Gas-Boy gasoline dispenser. One 12,000-gallon diesel AST and (1) 4,000-gallon gasoline AST was installed along with associated piping. The tank system included electronic leak detection/inventory monitoring and a card reader.
